I got a call from someone claiming to be from fraud department of my
bank over the weekend. The call showed up on my caller ID as US Bank
which is how I have it saved in my contacts. He said there was a
fraudulent charge from American Airlines and I was on that their website
booking a flight about an hour prior to the call.
For a moment I thought it was legit but then he asked for a pin #.
Just be careful because the caller ID makes it seem real. The actual
fraud department said they have seen this multiple times with the caller
ID showing as the bank.![]()
Reblog to save someone’s bank account
fraudsters use phone spoofing all the time, never trust the caller id. another easy way to spot fraud is if they start asking you for information regarding your account or yourself, legit banks don’t do that. I work in fraud and when I have to call a customer to verify transactions it basically goes “hello this is breanna from such and such bank, is mr. customer available? I was just calling to verify you were using your card today at this place for this amount?” or something along those lines. we never ask for any kind of personal information during those calls because if a legit bank is calling you about your account they have that information already, they did all the verification needed to know who they’re calling and talking to. the only time we’d ever ask for information is if a fraudster completely took over someones account, changed the address and things like that, then we would ask but that’s still usually along the lines of “did you change your address to a florida address? no, okay I’m going to change it back, are you still at the previous address that was on the account, the one in whatever state?” because we know that calling customers and asking for a lot of information is sketchy and fraud as shit, that’s why legit banks and cards never do!
